Have you met SANFORD HORN?
Educator: I have fought
in the trenches as a public school educator in some of the most challenging
school districts in these United
States – namely Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC – during the
last decade teaching American History, Social Studies, World Geography and
Language Arts at both the middle school and high school levels.
Community Reporter: In addition to
working as a teacher, I also spent several years with a local Northern Virginia newspaper
chain as a community reporter. One of my beats as a reporter involved covering
the activities at numerous schools in these local communities. Such activities
included, but were not limited to, profiling new teachers and principals,
interviewing new principals regarding their goals for that school’s future,
special activities involving students, interviewing both parents and students.
I also handled the more meaty subjects as school budgets, drug and alcohol use
among students, crime in the schools, and the all-important and controversial
Standards of Learning (SOL).
Alexandria City
Public Service: I was
appointed by the Mayor and City Council for the past two years to serve as a
member of the Public Records Advisory Commission (PRAC) (2004-present). The Commission provides guidance to the
Records Administrator & Archivist on matters pertaining to archives and
records management, as well as implementation of the City’s records management
program.
